Aluminum and Stainless Steel
5 x 5 x 10 feet
Joel Millikan’s Space Egg is a vibrant exploration of movement, reflection, and shared experience. Standing 10 feet tall, this egg-shaped sculpture merges engineering ingenuity with artistic curiosity. Constructed from aluminum and stainless steel, its sleek outer shell cradles a mesmerizing interior of 48 translucent, multicolored panels that shift hues and create the illusion of infinite depth, inviting viewers to journey into imagined realms of space and light.
The stainless steel exoskeleton is both protective and interactive, designed to rotate around the core, encouraging physical engagement. With the capacity to be spun or climbed by groups of up to eight, Space Egg transforms into a dynamic stage for collective play and contemplation.
Millikan’s creation invites participants to pause, connect, and redirect their focus, blending moments of joy and introspection. By bridging physical interaction with aesthetic wonder, Space Egg becomes a communal portal to both the infinite cosmos and the shared human experience.
